It’s that time of year, isn’t it? Empty tissue boxes are popping up all over my house. And apparently I’m the only one who knows how to get out a new one. Your house too? This is one of my favorite mom hacks with essential oils! It’s comforting when one of us is stuffed up or congested.
There are lots of essential oils that provide great, natural respiratory support. When we breathe in oils, the molecules travel to our lungs and interact with our respiratory system there. Adding the oils to tissues is a fast, easy way to to help open things up. (And maybe trick stubborn kiddos or spouses into using them???)
What You Need:
⭐️ Box of tissues
⭐️ Plastic zipper baggie (or any airtight container…I love THESE reusable silicone bags)
⭐️ Cotton ball
⭐️ Essential oils for respiratory support (THESE are the oils I use)
Instructions (These seriously could not be any easier!):
⭐️ Remove tissues from box and place inside plastic baggie.
⭐️ Add 3-4 drops of Essential Oil to cotton ball.
⭐️ Seal cotton ball with tissues inside baggie for 8-24 hours.
⭐️ After the essential oil has infused your tissues, you can place them back in the tissue box if you like. I prefer to keep mine sealed in the baggie. They stay stronger that way, and they travel well!
What Oils to Use
Young Living has a couple of blends that are designed for respiratory support, so these are my go-to choices. I use Raven or RC blends for myself and my hubs, and SniffleEase for my littles. If you don’t have these, you might try Eucalyptus, Lavender, or Peppermint. Whatever floats your boat.
Now, the important stuff. I know if you are reading this, you are probably looking for a better way, something that will work for your tiny humans or yourself. Remember the part above that talked about how molecules of oil interact with the respiratory system? That makes them freaking amazing! But it also means they have to be high quality. Grocery store oils unfortunately are full of junk…synthetics, distilled using toxic chemicals, diluted. And there’s no requirement to list everything on the label. Um, what?! Sooo….WHAT the heck is actually in there? Your guess is as good as mine! I don’t want to know. LOL! I researched and I started using Young Living oils with my fam about 7 years ago and we absolutely love them! (You can check out more HERE.)
Mix it up and be creative! When spring or fall brings a change in the seasons outdoors and we are reaching for our tissues again, I make these with Lavender, Lemon and Peppermint essential oils for a little seasonal support. 😉 Have you tried this? What is your favorite oil to use??? I would love to hear your ideas!
You can throw these in the car, in your purse, kiddo’s back pack, diaper bag, gym bag, or just drag them around the house with you! And check out this POST for more ideas on keeping everyone healthy!
