I just got back from a vacation at the beach and I always wish I could bring that smell and feeling home with me! I whipped up this recipe when I got home and it’s my new FAVORITE!
Years ago I used to love the beach scented body sprays and lotions from the bath stores. Unfortunately, those are loaded with ingredients that are harmful to our bodies. HERE is an article with 5 reasons we should all be avoiding synthetic fragrances: The 5 Must-Knows. When we use these products on our bodies, the toxins build up within our bodies and can’t effectively detoxify. This is a process called “bioaccumulation”, and it’s not a good thing. Basically, the more we expose ourselves to toxins, the harder it is for our bodies to break them down and get rid of them. Check out this article called NOT SO SEXY from the Environmental Working Group (EWG) on the hidden ingredients in perfumes and colognes. Ick! No thank you.
Luckily, this recipe is not only super fast and easy, but smells amazing! And I’m not gonna lie, I feel pretty fabulous and beachy spraying it all over in the morning and throughout the day. 🙂 Let’s talk about why I chose Stress Away essential oil. It’s a blend of heavenly oils (I’m not even joking) that help tension just melt away. It includes Lime and Vanilla, which give it just the right mix of citrus and warmth. When mixed with the salts, it’s a perfect light, beachy combo!
Ingredients:
- 2 teaspoons coarse Himalayan salt (I use THIS one – it needs to be coarse so it doesn’t get stuck in your sprayer!)
- 1 teaspoon unflavored vodka
- 8 drops Stress Away essential oil (get it HERE)
- Distilled water
Combine in a 4 oz spray bottle and fill to the top with distilled water. (The bottle I used in the pictures is actually 8 ounces and I doubled the recipe. HERE is a really pretty 4 oz. option.) Stress Away is a very light oil, so you can use more if you want a stronger smell. PRO TIP: Eventually the salts will break down and dissolve after a few weeks, so I only make what I will use and then just whip up some more when I run out. Here’s how I’m using this spray (and loving it!):
- Spritz on as a body spray in the morning
- A makeup refreshing mist during the day
- A relaxing cool down mist after working out
And of course it makes a beautiful gift! (Check out the two tiny bottles in the pictures below. I mean…how cute are those?!) Just think how pretty it would be with a little washy tape or twine. I you enjoy it as much as I do!
