Who else is excited for Pumpkin Spice season??? I’m always sad to see summer go, but October just might be my favorite month of the whole year. I’m in total Fall mode now…boots, cardigans, pumpkin spice creamer, decorations. And I love to make my home smell AH-MAZING for the season. A couple of weeks ago, I was in Target and noticed a display of the “healthy” cleaners in all sorts of Fall smells, which got me thinking about WHY I quit using those.
Years ago we stopped using candles, synthetic room sprays and store-bought cleaners in our home because they contain so many ingredients that are toxic to our health. I really wanted our home to be a safe haven for our kids. I grew up hitting my favorite store in the mall with ALLLLL the smells (you know the one I’m talking about!) to get my fall candles, plug-ins and matching body wash scents. When I started swapping out products for things that were safer and cleaner, one of the first brands I started buying came in a thousand yummy smells. Winning! Or maybe not. This brand is shared by lots of bloggers and influencers, but I’m a label reader so naturally I wanted to know the ingredients. It turns out, that so-called “natural” brand contains Fragrance. This one word allows companies to hide literally thousands of potentially toxic ingredients without disclosing to consumers. That’s a no-go for me, especially from a company marketing themselves as clean. (More on what’s called “greenwashing” HERE. The company I mentioned isn’t on this list, but should be. 😉 )
As a breast cancer survivor, all of a sudden doctors are talking to me about toxin-free living and replacing chemical cleaners. And of course, I’m like “um yeah, I’m already all over it, Doc!”. But why aren’t there conversations BEFORE to give us every advantage for prevention?
So, let’s be real. We still want all the fall smells, right?! The good news is we totally CAN and it’s super easy! Several years ago I discovered Thieves Cleaner and it’s my favorite cleaner ever. It smells so good, it’s completely safe and plant-based and it’s more effective than anything else I’ve tried (even my old toxic junk)! It’s a concentrate, so one bottle lasts me months.

DIY Pumpkin Spice Cleaner
To make my all-purpose cleaner, I just combine 1 cap full of Thieves Cleaner with water in a 16-oz spray bottle. Easy peasy! It’s simple and fun to add additional essential oils to my Thieves Cleaner to create scents for any season. Here’s how to make Pumpkin Spice all-purpose cleaner!
Add 1 cap full of Thieves Cleaner to a 16-oz spray bottle. Next, add the following essential oils.
- 15 drops Thieves essential oil
- 10 drops Orange essential oil
- 6 drops Cinnamon Bark essential oil
- 5 drops Nutmeg essential oil
Swirl around to mix the cleaner and oils. Then fill the bottle with water. That’s it!
HERE are some 16-oz spray bottles I like. I prefer 16-oz, but if you want to make a smaller batch for seasonal cleaning or make them as gifts or a fun Make + Take with friends, HERE are some cute 8-oz spray bottles!

Pumpkin Spice ALL THE THINGS!
And here’s something even more fun…once you have the essential oils and the recipe, you can make sooooo many things Pumpkin Spice for Fall! Literally whatever you want! Here’s what I’ve added the Pumpkin Spice oil blend to so far…
- Thieves Dish Soap: Add the same recipe of essential oils to a bottle of Thieves Dish Soap (I mean, who doesn’t love coordinating scented cleaners, right?!). Because the dish soap is concentrated and thick, you might want to add a small amount of warm water which will help it mix up easier.
- Thieves Foaming Hand Soap: You can also add the same oils to a bottle of Thieves Hand Soap! If you want something without the Thieves label, I love THESE foaming pump bottles.
- Room Spray: It’s super easy to make a room spray or bathroom spray at home! Just add a squirt of either witch hazel or vodka, the pumpkin spice essential oil recipe, and fill the rest of the way with water. THESE are my favorite bottles for making DIY sprays. Make sure to give the bottle a quick toss back and forth before spraying, to make sure the oils are mixed up. TIP: You can use this same recipe to make a linen spray. Just choose your favorite relaxing essential oils!
- Diffuser Blend: Instant Fall candle swap! Double, triple or quadruple the pumpkin spice essential oil recipe in a small dropper bottle (I love THESE) or an empty essential oil bottle. Then just drip the pre-mixed blend right into the diffuser! It saves you time of mixing the oils each time you want to diffuse them.
If you don’t have any of all of these, I created a Pumpkin Spice Bundle HERE. You can choose the items you want and add them to your cart.
Have fun creating all sorts of yummy smelling goodies with the comfort of knowing they are clean and plant-based. Make sure you check out my Pumpkin Spice coffee creamer recipe to get all the Fall feels!
HAPPY FALL, YA’LL! xo, Kelli
