It’s weird to be excited about a cancer treatment, right? But I’ve been looking forward to this trip! Everyone is different. Some women choose 100% traditional medical treatment. Some choose completely natural. For me, a combination is the best fit. I will likely proceed with local radiation and hormone therapy. But in addition, I’m choosing some natural cancer therapies alongside my traditional treatments.
Today I spent my first day at the Riordan Clinic in Overland Park, KS! This is one part of this crazy cancer journey I’ve been looking forward to. This is the part that is focused on healing, strengthening my body + mind and restoring my health. I will be in KC a total of 3 days to get my treatments officially started, although most of the ongoing treatments can be done either at home or in a local clinic.
I started the day bright and early at 7:30am for fasting bloodwork. Which meant no coffee, my least favorite way to start any day. What felt like buckets of blood work (I’m sure it wasn’t, but maybe?!), will be sent off to test a bajillion things that help create a good picture of my baseline and help identify any areas where my body needs strengthening. Next, I met with Dr. Lucas. I’ve already had a telemed appointment, so this was a continuation. We talked about everything from treatments to diet to resources. My homework is to read Anticancer Living, which happens to be sitting untouched on my nightstand right now. If you want to grab it, you can find it HERE!
Who would have thought I’d be learning how to give myself mistletoe treatments?! Shots. Ugh. Listen, I’m pretty sure there’s a reason I majored in accounting. But I guess I’ll learn quickly! Apparently mistletoe therapy is widely researched and part of many standard cancer treatments in Europe. It’s kind of a way to reset my immune system to factory settings. I will take all the treatments and supplies home when I leave here Wednesday. After that, I had ozone therapy via an IV. The short version is blood was drawn, mixed with ozone and then sent back in through an IV. LOTS of possible benefits! The main reason it was started today is that I mentioned concern of mold exposure. The ozone therapy is supposed to help bust up biofilms and open up detox pathways. That was followed by a nutritional IV, which included high dose vitamin C along with several other amazing vitamins and minerals. Getting them via an IV helps the body absorb up to 90% more than taking them orally! YAY for all the vitamins!
I know, it doesn’t seem funny. But there was something so silly about taking a photo while getting an IV cancer treatment!
In addition, I will take some high dose supplements over the next 12-18 months to help strengthen my immune system, reduce inflammation and support me through radiation.
Side note! Since I had 3 days in Overland Park on my own, I pretty much ate my way through KC! My favorite was Enjoy Pure Food + Drink and I will absolutely hit it up every time I’m back! Incredible healthy food options, tons of gluten-free/dairy-free/vegan things, smoothies and smoothie bowls, cold pressed raw juice and a coffee bar. Basically heaven.org.
Our bodies are incredible. I believe 100% they are created to heal when we can give them the right internal and external environment. I know this is an important step toward healing for me.
XO, Kelli
