UPDATED January 2021: Of all the DIYs I make and share, this is BY FAR the most requested that I sell. I don’t sell it because I barely have time to make for me, much less to keep up with selling them. LOL! But they are THAT freakin’ good and you need to make them, friend! I promise they’re easy, or I wouldn’t make them!
Back to the Original Post…
Winter has set in, my friends. Once the holidays are past, the winter mood just isn’t so festive. #amiright But, here is one thing I am totally loving! These “heel sticks” are lotion bars made in a deodorant tube which makes them perfect for rubbing on dry, cracked winter feet. (I’ll spare you the details or pics of my own winter feet, but trust me, I need this stuff.) And honestly, my summer feet (flip flops all day, every day) love it too. My feet are love them and have been softer than ever since I started making these years ago! And the recipe is easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy. Don’t be afraid of the melting, I promise it’s not hard.
INGREDIENTS
- 1/3 heaping cup Beeswax Pellets (HERE)
- 1/3 heaping cup Coconut Oil (my FAVORITE!)
- 1/3 heaping cup Shea Butter (like THIS)
- 15 drops Lavender Essential Oil (I get my oils HERE)
- 15 drops Peppermint Essential Oil (HERE)
- 15 drops Panaway Essential Oil (HERE)
- 3-4 empty Deodorant Tubes (like THESE)
- Honey is optional
You can use a smaller amount of essential oils, but I like my lotion sticks to be strong. Another reason I use Young Living oils only. If you are using a different brand of oils, you may need to use quite a few more drops due to the difference in potency and purity.

INSTRUCTIONS
Heat the Beeswax, Coconut Oil and Shea Butter in a double boiler. Or…if you don’t have a double boiler (I don’t and it’s never stopped me!), you can add the ingredients to a glass measuring cup and place the measuring cup in pot of boiling water. OR…the really easy way is to just microwave them. 🙂 But make sure not to overheat! I generally try to avoid using the microwave at all (but life, right?). In this case it will speed up the process quite a bit. *Optional: You can add some honey to the recipe if you like. Caution, you have to be VERY CAREFUL that it gets thoroughly mixed with the other ingredients. Otherwise, you will end up with a sticky pocket of honey that doesn’t solidify in your lotion bars. No fun! (Unfortunately, I know this from experience.) I decided it was easier without, so now I mostly make them without honey to avoid the hassle. But it is fun to add if you are patient.
Once they are melted and mixed together, remove from heat and add your essential oils. Then pour the mixture in to empty deodorant tubes. It will fill 3 to 4 tubes. Let them sit until the lotion has cooled and hardened. Then you are ready to enjoy!
Here’s what I do with them:
I use these every night when I get ready for bed. The Panaway oil makes them perfect for using after a long day on your feet. I rub them right on my feet and then put on socks to keep the goodness trapped in there.
Plus, stick on a cute label and these make great gifts! I gave several over the holidays and people have loved them and asked me for the recipe. I like to double the recipe and keep half for me and the other half for gifting. I have THIS old school label maker from Amazon and use it for seriously everything!
Be creative!
These don’t have to be just for feet! Try adding any oils you love to make your own fabulous lotion bars. Some oils I love for amazing skin care are lavender (what is this oil not good for, right?!), geranium and frankincense.
I love the deodorant tubes because it makes application easy and there’s no mess. But you can make them in anything you like…little jars or soap molds will work great too.
Feet all over the world…you’re welcome!
Once you have all these ingredients, you can make THIS awesome DIY too! If you don’t have your Young Living oils yet, grab them HERE to have these amazing tools in your home. Hello, toxin-free wellness! Hope you love them as much as I do!
