Do you have those spaces that you sort of forget about? And then all of a sudden wake up one day and realize it’s way past due for some updates? LOL! That’s our guest bedroom. It doubles as Kendall’s playroom, so the guest bed has sort of been an after thought in between the Barbies and American Girls. My hubby has a friend staying with us next month and I decided it was time for a Target run!
Before
Not exaggerating when I say it was way past time to replace bedding. How about these tropical vibes circa 2003?! So matchy! We registered for this bedding (yikes, I know) at Target when we got married 18 years ago. But it just never seemed like a priority. Not to mention it’s SO NOT SOFT.

Choices
I could drool over Pottery Barn or custom bedding all day long. But the reality is very few people actually stay in this guest bed / playroom. 😂 While it needs a refresh for those who do stay, I also wanted something easy and budget.
We have more color in our master bedroom. But for our guest bedroom, I wanted something neutral and soft where everyone staying would feel comfortable and welcome. After browsing my local Target and looking around online, I had an idea of what I wanted and put together a couple of design boards to help me see them. (Listen, they aren’t great, but they did the job, lol!)
I’m sharing both because I really loved the gray option. Our guest bedroom has gray walls and no windows. So I went with white to lighten up the room. But if gray works for you, I loved this option! {P.S. Design boards are super easy to make with Pic Monkey! I used Target’s stock photos for the comforter and then placed my other pieces on top. It will even remove the background for you!}
After
I love how comfy it is now! I wasn’t initially sold on a white comforter, since it’s also a playroom. But I really wanted to keep it light and airy because of the darker walls and lack of natural light. All of these will be really easy pieces to swap out over time and getting it at Target didn’t break the bank.
- Seersucker Comforter
- Cotton/Linen Euro Pillow
- Oversized Microstripe Lumbar Pillow (so squishy!!)
- Chunky Knit Blanket (one of my all-time faves!)
- Organic Cotton Striped Sheets
- Mini Metal Lamp
- Small Ember Diffuser (includes a bottle of Ecuadorian Lemongrass, which is super fresh + clean!)
A couple of others I loved:
- Waffle Weave Comforter
- Organic Sour Cream Thin Stripe Sheets
- Frayed Edge Linen Throw Pillow
- White ceramic Haven Diffuser
The lack of natural light does not flatter the photos but I really love these pillows! And the cozy touches of the small lamp and essential oil diffuser. I’ve also included a power strip changing station with USB ports for guests. You can find it HERE. Because we all know it’s no fun to stay somewhere and not have easy charging stations.
I also have some favorite from my winter “cozy-over” in our master bedroom HERE and a round-up of tons of pillows + blankets HERE!
Ok, now who wants to come stay??!!
XO, Kelli
