One reason I love Fall is because it kicks off “decorating season”! I love mixing up the outdoor and indoor spaces to create the feels of the season. Fall decorating is all about warm colors, rich textures and cozy layering. I think it’s my absolute favorite for my front porch!

Front Porch Tips + Ideas
- Bring in nature. What better season than Fall for this one?! Mums, pumpkins, straw bales, asters, grasses and ornamental kale are all easy, colorful additions for the season. I like to mix it up and add different sizes and colors.
- Vary heights + textures. Grab some larger mums and grasses to offset with small pumpkins and kale. Or stack flat pumpkins to add height.
- Invest in pieces you can use multiple seasons. I always get my mums, plants and pumpkins from my favorite local nursery each year. Incorporating pieces that will go from season to season helps with the budget. Door wreathes/swags, lanterns, baskets, chairs, wooden crates, urns and log holders can all be used annually and through different seasons.
- Layer door mats. I know, this is all over Instagram. But it’s so easy! And really does add depth, color and texture.
- Take photos! Once you have a set up you love, snap some pics! I have a “Home” album on my phone, so I can always go back and see what I did the previous year. It helps me remember what I need to grab, what I loved, and what I might want to change up the next year.
Preserving Pumpkins for the Season
I like to get my pumpkins in mid-September, and typically keep them until Thanksgiving when I get out the Christmas decorations. But nobody likes a liquified pumpkin come November, right?! LOL!! Ew. This tip is GOLD and so easy. When I get my pumpkins, I spray them with a clear, satin polyurethane. It’s like MAGIC, you guys! Preserves the pumpkins, even in the early Fall Missouri heat. Plus, it gives them a pretty, smooth sheen. *I always get a satin NOT a glossy finish. HERE is the one I like.
